Many critique bodybuilding for a supposive lack of functional strength, but in a recent incident featuring the Iranian bodybuilder Shahriar Kamali ,or King Kamali, proved this may not always be the case. He went out of his way to aid victims of a car accident, lifting the vehicle to save a woman’s life.

King Kamali’s Strength Saves a Life

Debuting in 1994, King Kamali is a prominent bodybuilder and vocal supporter of the sport. He competed for over 20 years, even being a strong contender for the Arnold Classic title three separate times. King Kamali eventually retired in 2006, but after getting his Bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology from George Mason continued to play a heavy role in bodybuilding through activism.

In a recent Instagram post, King Kamali shared an unbelievable story. Last Wednesday, he was in the car driving on the highway with his daughter when they spotted an accident on the side of the road. A car had been completely flipped over, with a woman still trapped inside. He immediately stopped and headed over to help.

Using his incredible strength, honed through years of bodybuilding and fitness, he ripped the car door off and lifted the car so she could escape. Despite such an intense scenario, King Kamali stayed calm and did the right thing. He went to Instagram to share his thoughts, stating:

“Jesus Christ people… I’m still in shock. Thanking God right now for the strength he has blessed me with because it took everything I had to lift this car off of her arm. Left hand amputated and legs broken but I stayed with her the entire time. The only way to get to her was to rip the fucking door off and I did. #godbewiththem #thankthelordformystrength

It is very tragic what happened to the woman, but without King Kamali’s strength it might have ended even worse. His eagerness to help and use his talents is truly inspirational. It just goes to show that no matter how unlikely or rare the situation, strength is never a bad thing to have.
